Greenberg's masterpiece

The book is fantastic! The text is very precise, yet friendly and easy to follow; the problems and examples are designed very carefully. I've seen his new book (advanced engineering mathematics) but I think this old book is more student friendly. He explains everything from the very beginning and you have this good feeling that both you and the author are trying to explore things together.
The section on Linear Spaces is great. I wanted to study functional analysis and this section was a great help since it gives you a "feeling" about an abstract subject. I also enjoyed his rigorous treatment of PDE's. He mentions that when you want to apply the boundary conditions; this makes sense in the "limit sense" since the boundary is not included in the domain of your differential equation. This has a always been a question to me as a beginner and I found the answer in this book. I haven't seen books like Kreyszig or Myint-U or Farlow address such issues, yet I should say all of them are great.
I studied this book when I was taking a graduate engineering mathematics class at UT Austin. I had already studied Kreyszig; that is also very nice and easy to follow but Greenberg's book is deeper. If you are studying the subject for the first time, I think you need another book, like Kreyszig, as a supplement. Myint-U is also a good supplement for the PDE part and the method of characteristics which is briefely discussed here.
Greenberg's book is a masterpiece! I want to send him a greeting card and thank him for his great work!

Easy read

It is rare when you find a textbook which helps you to learn a subject. Foundations of Applied Mathematics is one of them. Prof. Greenberg wrote a book which explains the material so well I find it an "easy read."

Why the small font size?

No doubt this is a great book. It covers diverse topics with many worked out examples. The discussions are very clear and student friendly. My only issue is the very small font size which makes the reading tedious. I don't understand why the publisher selected small font size compared with the original version?
