Disappointing

I'm sorry to give this book a terrible review as the author seems a sweet person. But if you found this title after reading Malcolm Gladwell's 'Outliers' or the paper, 'The Making of an Expert' by Ericsson, Prietula and Cokely, as I did, and you are curious to know more about evidence based research for the '10,000 hour rule', you won't find it in this book. It starts well enough to keep you reading but then descends quickly into a check-list style, self-help, quasi psychological piece of trash. I was terribly disappointed. Two things alerted me early on. Firstly, when the author states this book is 'not a self-help book'. You would think if it wasn't a self-help book that would be obvious. But of course, it is a self-help book and so I was immediately suspicious of the value I was going to derive from this book. Second, the epigraphs that begin each chapter seem plucked from a google search or perhaps a publishers epigraph library in order to pad out the pages. When I found a quote from Taylor Swift I stopped reading.

Life changer

If you are interested in changing your life, this is a must read- & a re-read, & re-read. It is a resource that will deliver something new for you - another piece of the puzzle- each time you pick it up. Phyllis Lane practices what she preaches, so I know I am reading a how-to guide on life, full of integrity. Although it may not come easy, this provides proof that achieving success in any area of your life is within your grasp- if you want it. This book offers the steps, tools, & encouragement to do just that- if you want it. It is not something we are born with, or just luck, but a practice within reach. I find this so encouraging- there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It just looks different for each of us, and we all can get there taking different avenues. I look forward to sharing the wealth with many!

A Principal is a Principle

This book to me is all about the principle of becoming and how it takes time. Not only does she give you an outline of what that becoming looks like; she gives you effective actions to take in order to reach your goal. After reading this book I become more aware of time instead of avoiding it. I still don't wear a watch, but I am considering it. What I do, do is monitor how much time I spend doing a particular project or hobby, making sure that each and every day I am devoting time and effort to become what I want to be, and not just talking about it, while watching T.V.
