Best Amharic language book I've seen available in U.S.

I bought this book to be used by some native English speakers who will be moving to Ethiopia. I did not use it for my own personal learning, although I do know a few words of Amharic, and have been to Ethiopia. I am a native English speaker, so I can share a little insight into how easy this book is to understand, and how useful it could be.
The copy I received from an Amazon seller is the 6th edition by Alem Eshetu, and it is 156 pages long. The cover is different from what is pictured on Amazon, but it is the same book.
It includes a limited dictionary in the back that is ordered alphabetically according to the Amharic. So that would be helpful if you are looking up an Amharic word you heard but don't understand--but it would not be as useful if you need to translate an English word into Amharic. Luckily, the vocab is grouped thematically, so that would cut down on the search time. The dictionary has 700 vocabulary words, so you should consider getting another dictionary to supplement.
Throughout the book, all phrases and dialogues include the spelling with Ge'ez (Amharic) characters, a phonetic spelling using our alphabet (with a few new sounds), and the English equivalent. There is no real discussion on how to read Ge'ez--I imagine that would be a whole book's worth of content in and of itself.
There are a few exercises that ask a learner to practice what he/she is learning. They would be helpful. There are clearly written out sections on verb tenses with all the correlating pronouns, which is good because there are different suffixes depending on which gender of person you are speaking with.
There are a few very brief sections on cultural tips. Probably about 4 pages of content total, so it is light.
If I know anything about Amharic, it is that it is a tough language to pronounce. You need to hear a native speaker pronounce words to have much of a clue about what this book is saying. Many words have guttural sounds--not clicks exactly, but a sort of stutter sound that originates in different parts of the mouth/throat. If you don't hear a native speaker make these sounds, you will have no clue how to do it. I can sort of pronounce words correctly after a three-year long friendship with someone from Ethiopia. ;)
